Snowy Day Project

This was a really wonderful project for younger students, and really fun when coming back from a snow day! We first read The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, while reading we would pause and I would ask the students to draw different things on their paper.

  • First they would draw their house or neighborhood
  • Then themselves playing in snow, we talked about what kind activities they did when it snowed last and if they didn’t play what they wish they did!
  • Then I handed out little cups of white paint and cotton swabs. The students took the cotton swabs, dipped them in the paint, and dotted those onto their drawings. They got so thoughtful about where the snow would be landing and where to put it to show that their drawings were playing in it. Quick prep, drying time and clean up, but still engaging for the whole block.
